This session invites practitioners who are already working in climate related fields to explore the Climate Fresk as a tool and to workshop ideas on how this tool could be deployed within the spheres of influence they work within.
The Climate Fresk is an internationally renowned climate literacy workshop that has touched over 1.5 million participants in governments, businesses, and communities globally. This workshop is designed to engage participants on this topic and empower them towards action. This is done through a 3-part approach:
Participant-led reconstruction of a 42-card systems map of climate drivers and consequences. Cards display topics from the UN’s award-winning IPCC report (climate science source of truth). This portion highlights and empowers collective intelligence and collaboration.
Creative phase to process the information
Ideation to identify solutions, at individual and collective levels.
Goals
The goal of this initiative is to foster a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between climate change, environmental health, and public health, while equipping participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take informed and impactful action. The project also aims to establish a scalable model for broader sector-wide adoption by offering subsequent (optional) training Climate Fresk facilitators who can independently implement workshops in their regions and organizations. Ultimately, this initiative aspires to cultivate a global community grounded in shared knowledge and collective action for climate resilience.
Objectives
Raise Awareness: Illuminate the complex web of dependencies among climate change, environmental health, and public health.
Build Community: Foster a sense of connection and collaboration among participants by leveraging a connective intelligence model that values and invites all voices.
Empower Action: Provide participants with a structured, science-informed brainstorming process to enable meaningful actions within their professional roles and personal lives
Methodology
The Climate Fresk workshop follows a structured, 3 hour format designed to tap into collective intelligence while encouraging collaboration and individual reflection. Key components include:
Mapping Climate Science: Participants work in groups to build a visual map illustrating the drivers, mechanisms, and consequences of climate change using a set of 42 Climate Fresk cards. The cards, rooted in the IPCC’s 6th cycle assessment report, provide a comprehensive and scientifically grounded foundation.
Reflection and Action: After completing the map, participants engage in exercises to process the scale and urgency of the climate crisis. In this session focused on practitioners who are already working in climate related fields, participants will create innovative systems maps of solutions that apply to the specific areas and populations they are working within.
A tailored debrief session will focus on actionable insights to encourage participants to identify specific actions they can take in their roles and communities.
Pedagogy Principles: The workshop emphasizes collaboration, co-construction, personal brainstorming, and group discussions, fostering a supportive environment for diverse perspectives.
