Full Description

This live-recorded conversation touches upon ways to cultivate a robust interior life rooted in imagination, creativity, fertile stories, ritual, self-compassion, and the vital necessity of friendship and living community. Let’s wonder aloud and explore what facing the world with soul might look like in these tenuous, uncertain times.

We are living in a time of radical change and uncertainty on this beautiful, beleaguered planet. It is a season of descent, of breakdowns, and collapse. We have entered what could be called the Long Dark, a necessary time when old calcified systems are breaking down and potentially composting into something life-sustaining. How well we respond to these evolving circumstances will determine the shape of the coming decades.

In a time marked by deep uncertainty, rising grief, and the undeniable unraveling of many systems we once relied on, we are asked a profound question: How do we face the world with soul?

In this evocative and timely dialogue, psychotherapist, soul activist, and author Francis Weller invites us into the sacred terrain of descent: a terrain he describes not as a place of despair, but as “holy ground.” Known for his landmark book The Wild Edge of Sorrow, Francis brings decades of wisdom from depth psychology, ritual, community practice, and ancestral remembrance.

This conversation unfolds as a kind of incantation, rich with insight and intimacy. It speaks to the grief and beauty we all carry, and how holding both is the mark of our maturity. As Francis reminds us, “The soul is most evident in affliction.” And in this long dark season, “grief will be the keynote for the coming decades”—not as an end, but as a threshold to joy, intimacy, and awakening.

He asks, with tenderness and clarity:

How do we keep our souls alive?

What would a soulful response to these circumstances look like?

What practices and perspectives can support us leaning into the world?

How can we register that the widening symptoms of collapse are also being felt and experienced in our bodies and souls?

Whether you’re arriving here from long familiarity with Francis’s work or stepping into it for the first time, this talk is more than a lecture. It is a space of gathering, of remembering what it means to be human in the age of unraveling, and of learning to trust imagination, grief, and beauty as vital medicine for the road ahead.
